The Basics
As a branch of Firelands Regional Medical Center, Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services brings high quality care to the state of Ohio. The facility has branches in Erie, Huron, Lorain, Ottawa, Sandusky, Seneca and Wyandott Counties—all of which provide outpatient services for substance abuse. Treatment includes Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and group and individual therapy. By also incorporating the 12 steps, clients learn to thrive in recovery will a well-rounded approach to treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Following an initial assessment, clients develop individualized treatment plans with the staff. Dual diagnosis support is available when necessary, though detox is not provided.
IOP meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for three hours at a time for group sessions. Topics covered during group include relapse prevention, emotional processing, an introduction to the 12 steps and coping skills. Clients are also encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings during their spare time, though this is not required. Individual therapy sessions can be added into a client’s schedule when needed.
Clients can also attend individual sessions as its own track of treatment. This private space also helps clients address the underlying causes behind their issues. These sessions each last an hour and utilize CBT. When applicable, these sessions are usually conducted on a weekly basis. The treatment team consists of LADCs, mental health therapists and psychiatrists, with group sizes that range from four to six clients at a time.
Extras
In addition to the programs strictly for addiction, Firelands Regional Medical Center also provides a wide range of additional medical services including mental health education, consultations, a hotline and crisis assistance, driver intervention, case management and a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). As mentioned, the organization also has a network of facilities clients can choose from depending on their location.
