The Basics
Effective Living Center is a treatment facility offering quality mental health and substance abuse counseling to individuals of all ages. ELC provides outpatient care from two facilities—one located in Little Falls and the other in St. Cloud, Minnesota. With programs catered to each individual’s needs, clients at ELC have access to a variety of group therapy topics including co-occurring disorders, CBT, DBT, anger management, domestic violence and gender-specific recovery groups. The staff at ELC treats clients through evidence-based material using both group and individual therapy. Medication management services are also available when needed.
Treatment and Staff
The recovery process at ELC begins with an intake session led by a therapist. Clients are then matched with a primary counselor who best suits their needs. As a supplement to group therapy, clients can also meet with their counselor for individual therapy sessions that are scheduled as needed. A visiting nurse practitioner is available once a month to provide medication management services. Though ELC is not a 12-step based program, staff members support that treatment technique and offer referrals to local meetings upon request.
The outpatient program at ELC is open to all those in need of dual diagnosis support. All clients who qualify for treatment at ELC are placed in the primary co-occurring disorders program which is divided into two phases. In the first phase, clients meet for group therapy sessions twice a week for six weeks. Groups at both offices are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5 to 8 pm, though Little Falls hosts an extra group on the same days from 10 am to 1 pm. Once clients enter the second phase they are required to attend one three hour-long group therapy session a week for eight weeks. This group meets at both facilities on Mondays from 10 am to 1 pm or on Tuesdays starting at 5 pm.
Throughout treatment, clients have access to various groups they can attend in conjunction with primary programming. Though each group has a recommended length of attendance, adjustments can be made when necessary. Both facilities have gender-specific recovery groups on Tuesdays for two hours starting at 10 am. These focus on developing social support and relationships. There’s also an anger management group held on Tuesdays from 2 to 4 pm at both locations.
A Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) group is also available at St. Cloud on Wednesdays from 5 to 7 pm and on Thursdays at both locations starting at noon. This group is a cognitive restructuring group that addresses maladaptive thinking. St. Cloud holds two additional groups that are not offered at Little Falls—a domestic violence group which meets on Mondays from 5 to 8 pm, and a DBT skills group held on Thursdays from 10 am to noon. The DBT group has a strong focus on relapse prevention and identifying triggers. Staff members at ELC include LADCs, licensed mental health professionals and a nurse practitioner.
Extras
ELC clients are offered aftercare services that are set up individually based on the clients needs.
There’s also an Intensive Intervention Program (IIP) that meets for two consecutive Saturdays for eight hours at a time. This is a closed group offered on a quarterly basis to those seeking highly structured alcohol and drug education services. Services are available at the St. Cloud facility only.
For DUI clients, there’s the Driving the Right Way program held at the St. Cloud office. The program takes place over two consecutive Fridays for four hours at a time.
In Summary
At Effective Living Center, clients are provided with a wide range of treatment services. Programs are catered to those dealing with co-occurring disorders through the use of evidence-based group and individual therapy sessions held on a regular basis. In all, EFC is a good option for those seeking outpatient treatment with additional specific services.
