Baker City OregonThe Basics

As part of New Directions Northwest, a non-profit organization that serves Baker County, Oregon, the Recovery Village substance abuse program has offered treatment services since 2010. Based in Baker City, Oregon, Recovery Village is a co-ed inpatient program. It offers a six-month treatment stay specifically for parents of young children. Clients of Recovery Village can be accompanied by up to three children under the age of six.

Accommodations and Food

The Recovery Village housing is provided in a large house on fenced grounds to provide privacy and safety for the children of clients. Five parents and 15 children can be accommodated at any given time. Rooms are private with amenities in place for the parent to share living space with their child or children. An open living area includes a large family room, dining room, kitchen and laundry facilities, as well a number of shared bathrooms. There are separate group rooms and a daycare center on-site. All meals and snacks are included in cost of stay and provided for the clients and their kids.

Treatment and Staff

Recovery Village provides group therapy sessions daily from 9 am to 4 pm while clients meet with their assigned counselor individually a minimum of once a week. Groups offered cover a variety of topics, including relapse prevention, setting boundaries, drug and alcohol education, co-dependency, trauma and seeking safety. Recovery Village does not base its treatment on the 12-step modality, however off-site dual-diagnosis support is available. Clients are provided with referrals to a local psychiatrist if needed.

On-site day care is offered during the treatment day from 8:30 am to 4 pm. The day care os staffed by certified professional childcare workers, but Recovery Village has residents help in the daycare on a rotating basis as an opportunity for skill building. Clients’ children may be referred to WIC Food and Nutrition Service or the Health Department at Recovery Village’s discretion.  In partnership with Head Start and the Baker 5J school district, Recovery Village provides clients with classes in budgeting, parenting and more. No group is available on weekends. Clients mostly do house chores and use that time to relax and spend time doing activities with their children.

Recovery Village employs four CADCs and a nurse, who is available for health assessments or referrals. The medical director is a board-certified internist.

Extras

A stand-alone building houses Curves equipment, available for daily exercise. For recreation, Recovery Village clients may visit the local YMCA, go shopping and go to the park while supervised.
