The Basics
The Harrisonburg and Rockingham Community Services Board is a community-based provider of public health services in Harrisonburg, Virginia. One of 40 such services in the state of Virginia, the Community Services Board offers outpatient health programs and mental health services for chemical dependency. Programs are funded by the state commonwealth, making treatment affordable for all and welcoming for those new to recovery as well as individuals with recovery time looking for support.
Treatment and Staff
Before an individual is enrolled, they must come to the walk-in clinic for a bio-psycho-social assessment Monday through Thursday beginning at 8:30 am and on Fridays at 9:30 am. The acuity of the client dictates the specific group they are placed in for therapy. Each group is divided by clients who are new to recovery and individuals who have completed primary care or who have experience with sobriety. Clients with co-occurring disorders are placed in a specialty group that offers dual diagnosis support.
There is no set time frame for completing treatment as each track is individualized based on a client’s progress. Depending on the treatment plan, clients attend therapeutic activities once to four times per week. Clients attend group and individual therapy for up to two hours each day with sessions scheduled both during the day and in the evenings.
All groups are facilitated by therapists who utilize evidence-based practices. Clients attend groups that focus on a range of topics including psycho-education, relapse prevention and 12-step concepts. Clients are also encouraged to attend community AA/NA meetings to develop support and community.
Clients with dual diagnosis also see a medical doctor for medication management services. The therapeutic staff credentials include LPCs, LCSWs and CSACs. There is an even mix of female and male staff and clients may choose to work with the gender of their choice.
Extras
In addition to adult outpatient services, HRCS also offers in-home family and on-site school child support. Clients requiring more intensive help with family relationships are given referrals for outside resources.
In Summary
HRCS offers individualized outpatient treatment for adults, with an added benefit of same-day assessments and treatment through a walk-in clinic. Dual diagnosis clients receive additional sessions with medication and medical support. Through traditional therapeutic methods, clients are given access to flexible and affordable programs tailored to their needs.
