The Basics
Based in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, Chester Counseling Center is a non-profit organization that offers a variety of behavioral health services including an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a traditional outpatient program for substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at Chester Counseling Center begins with an initial assessment. Since many clients enroll as the result of a court mandate, the facility works closely with the Drug Court Program of Chester County to tailor treatment plans to meet specific court requirements for each individual.
The IOP consists of three group therapy sessions and one individual therapy session a week led by a staff of LADCs. Clients participating in standard outpatient can expect one group session and one individual session a week. Groups are kept small with never more than 10 clients at a time. Chester Counseling Center also offers special bi-lingual sessions for native Spanish speakers. Therapy sessions consist primarily of CBT. While clients are introduced to 12-step concept of recovery, there are no meetings held on-site.
Chester Counseling Center also features a variety of specific group sessions that address particular subjects related to substance abuse. These include intervention services, gambling addiction sessions, anger management classes, DUI assessments and a family program. Clients also have access to art therapy group sessions to further individualize their recovery.
Dual-diagnosis services are also offered to clients with co-occurring disorders in the form of a staff psychiatrist who visits the facility twice a month on Monday and provides medication management. There is no medical doctor or nursing team on staff at the facility, nor are their medical detox services offered. Still, clients can receive aid in finding a nearby facility during initial assessments. After an initial 12 weeks in IOP, clients participate in an aftercare program which features group sessions that focus primarily on relapse prevention.
Extras
An additional program at Chester Counseling Center is its Maternal Dependency Program, a special outpatient track which offers pre-natal and post-partum substance abuse care for women and follows the same schedule as IOP. Clients receive transportation to and from the facility as well as daily child care for their children who are younger than school-age.
In Summary
Though a relatively small facility, Chester Counseling Center still provides individualized care and a range of services. Furthermore, the facility offers specific programs for pre-natal and post-partum mothers and bi-lingual group sessions. Clients in Chester County can still rely on building a solid foundation for sobriety at the Chester Counseling Center.
