The Basics

Lewis Gale Medical Center for Behavioral Health is part of the Lewis Gale Regional Health System network of hospitals providing health services to Southwest Virginia for over a century. LGMC is located in Salem, Virginia, and offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) program that integrates various evidence based treatment modalities as well as the 12 steps.

Treatment and Staff

The IOP at LGMC is intended for those who have already completed detox. Treatment is scheduled after hours allowing clients to continue with their normal life routines while receiving comprehensive substance abuse treatment.

The IOP typically consists of 12-16 sessions held every weeknight for three hours. Clients may choose which days and how often they would like attend treatment.

The foundation of treatment at LGMC is group therapy, independently scheduled individual therapy and family therapy if desired as well as the 12-steps. Clients are required to find a sponsor within a week of starting treatment. Upon completion of treatment, clients are encouraged to attend an evening recovery group as a form of aftercare to help maintain a connection to recovery and a sober community.

The staff at LGMC consists of physicians, psychiatrists, LCDCs, CADCs and LPCs.

Extras

In addition to the IOP, LGMC also offers various other services for mental illness and disabilities as well as an addiction program for professionals, designed for those individuals in a monitoring program meeting the requirements of the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
